Age Requirements

Operating Motorized Watercraft in Wisconsin

Wisconsin boating laws state that to operate a any motorized watercraft, the operator must be 18 years or older.

  • Born before January 1, 1989:
    You are grandfathered in and only need a driver’s license

  • Born after January 1, 1989:
    You must have a valid boater’s safety license and driver’s license

*If you are born after January 1st, 1989, please be sure to have a paper or digital copy of your boater’s safety license and driver’s license.

Operators 16 or 17 years old may operate a boat or jet ski ONLY if he/she has completed a boating safety certification exam AND must be accompanied by a parent while operating. 

We reserve the right to refuse rental to any operator.
