The new Chambers Island Marina will be dedicated at 5 p.m. on Aug. 4, 2007 as a part of the events of the Chambers Island Association, Inc. weekend. The entire Chambers Island community and representatives of the Town of Gibraltar and the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay will be in attendance for the ceremony. The event will include some brief comments by the Marina’s organizers and then the marina will be toasted with champagne. Co-chairman Ben Laird, one of the islanders involved in the project, said the marina is major improvement for the islanders who live on Chambers Island on a regular basis. “There’s no safe harbor out here for people on Chambers Island” Laird said. “This is huge for the Island community from a safety point of view. Boats out here are periodically ending up on shore, including my own—and that’s never a good thing.” This private marina is funded, and will be maintained by the Chambers Island Marina Company, LLC., which was established by the Chambers Island community. All of its 45 slips are already leased with a waiting list in tow. The marina is built on property owned by the Catholic Diocese and borders a dock owned by the Town which is leased to the Diocese.
