HARBOR MASTER MARSHA WILSON
No one would have guessed that Marsha Wilson, a 1985 UW-Stout grad with a major in graphic design and a minor in photography, would have ended up manning Fish Creek’s Alibi Dock. She grew up on a 100-acre farm, which didn’t give her any boat education—she knew only the bow from the stern when she entered the marina world.  Her work with marinas all started as a summer job that developed into something more.  She quit her job in her field the February after she graduated and applied for a position as dock hand that had opened at the Sister Bay Municipal Dock.

Wilson, who is basically in charge of everything at Alibi Dock, oversees the slip rentals, charging customers and fixing what needs to be fixed.  “How did somebody put it once?” Marsha said. “A mayor of a small town.”  She deals with whatever emergencies or situations that arise while on the job and keeps the customers happy.

What do you like about the Alibi Dock Marina?
Probably that it’s like one big family.  The boaters are concerned about each other and just get along really well.

What is special or unique about the Alibi Dock Marina’s Facilities?
It’s the most popular marina in Door County. It is, even you could probably say the Great Lakes. I’d be pretty close to saying that. Our word of mouth is basically our main advertisement. We are equipped to handle big boats. It’s a destination point for Door County.  It’s a place where people want to come. They can tie up the boat and if they have a dinghy they can go around to Fish Creek Beach or they can go to Nicolet Beach. You’re close—you can use it as a home base.

And they are equipped to handle big boats.

What precautions should boaters take for a safe trip in and out of the marina?
Probably just be aware of the Strawberry Islands and the points.  Strawberry islands—If boaters are coming from the south, they should pretty much stay right between the mainland and the islands. It’s right on the tip there that they have to stay out probably a hundred yards, roughly.

Who should boaters contact?
Call us on radio or telephone.  If they call on channel 9, we’ll direct them into their slip. By phone (920) 868-3789 or E-mail: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Who else is available to help boaters?
My assistant this year is Randy Peterson (Boating experience includes professional sailing off of the Atlantic and Gulf)
Carl Herndon
Stuart Herndon
Peter Grimm III
