HARBOR MASTER JASON RASS
In 1992, when he was just a junior in high school, Brussels native Jason Rass, started his career in boating. He worked as a dockhand for Quarterdeck Marina and after Jason graduated with his degree in marketing, he worked full time. When Skipperbud’s took over Quarterdeck Marina in the fall of 1998, Jason moved up to his role as manager and harbor master of Harbor Club Marina.

The experience he gained over the years from working with boaters and marina services, prepared him for his current position as harbor master. Now, he busies himself with ensuring smooth operation and upkeep of the marina and its service facility.

What do you like about the Harbor Club Marina’s Facilities?
It’s close to downtown and there are lots of things to do. Also, the bathroom facilities, the shower suites, the ability to have several restaurants within walking distance, the excellent pumpout system where boaters don’t have to leave the dock to get pumped out, and that this is a pretty well-protected harbor—almost any weather is not going to be an issue.

What is special or unique about the Sister Bay Municipal Dock’s Facilities?
The on-site restaurant and how close it is to downtown. For many of the same reasons listed above.

What precautions should boaters take for a safe trip in and out of the marina?
Watch out for Dunlap’s Reef—now trees are growing on it so it’s just seeing it. Also, the only thing boaters have to worry about, from the lake side, is that the bridge only opens on the hour. It’s not really a hazard, it’s more of something they have to prepare for if they’re too tall.  The approximate height is about 15 feet—boats exceeding that height will have to be prepared to arrive when the bridge opens.

Have dock lines and fenders ready.

Who should boaters contact?
The marina’s number, which is (920) 743- 6900, or they can call on the marine radio, channel 9.

Who else is available to help boaters?
Seasonal employees
